Holidays, WindowsPager
Today I finished up my last day of [formal] work before school holidays. It's nice to look ahead and see a couple weeks without going to work.
As things are wont to be, however, the next two weeks are very nearly full already. I received an invitation to help out with the State Music Camp, an offer that I certainly couldn't turn down. Along with that, I'll be continuing my own catch-up at the schools where I teach, and getting in my own practice time. During the second week, Cindy and I are off to a well-deserved week in Sydney.
Since I have a few spare minutes before bed, I thought I'd look for a Windows-based pager application. I used to enjoy Dekspot (was that its name?), but it seems to have disappeared. That particular program had a habit of causing problems at inconvenient times ...
This evening I stumbled onto the opensource WindowsPager. I'm a fan of SourceForge projects, so I knew it had to be worth a try.
WindowsPager has a tiny footprint (no installer - just a standalone executable plus an INI file) and just a few simple features. There really isn't a GUI for configuration, which might turn me off later. To change the number of desktops, the backgrounds, or the hotkeys, it's necessary to edit the accompanying INI file.
Despite any lack of frills, I'm sold right now. I need to let the test run for a few weeks and see if I have any trouble. So far so good.
That's how I have started my holidays. Tomorrow morning, practicing bright and early at 7.30a. Special kudos go out to Alistair Crawford for helping to get me up early to do the routine. And that reminds me of a quote attributed to Francis of Assisi:
There is a close relationship between getting up in the world and getting up in the morning.
Possible error in that attribution, but it's still right. I'll switch mental desktops and get some rest.
