Linux (at home)

Printer-friendly versionSend to friendPDF version

I started using Linux at home a few years ago. My good friend Alex (of BTO fame) popped an Xubuntu LiveCD into my laptop. And so it began.

If you have general questions about using Linux, I strongly recommend you check Google's dedicated Linux search page. You will find many answers there. And RTM.

My experience is very limited as I have used only a few flavors of Linux:

  • Damn Small Linux (Debian-based, minimal)
  • Tiny Core Linux (Debian-based, minimal)
  • Xubuntu (an official Ubuntu derivative)

These pages include my notes from installing Linux onto a few laptops for home use and daily work. Notably, I finished my doctoral study on an HP laptop running Xubuntu and Open Office. I am quite grateful!

I nolonger use the HP Evo N410c. I was sorry to see it go, but have since taken up an HP Mini 1001 netbook. I currently survive on a stock Windows XP installation, and dual-boot to Tiny Core Linux.

Happy reading.
